Billy Bob Thornton turned down the Green Goblin โ Willem Dafoe took the mask


Thornton was offered the Green Goblin in 2002's Spider-Man but said he "just can't be in makeup that long" and wasn't interested in playing a villain. Willem Dafoe took the role instead, delivering one of the most memorable comic-book performances of the era.

According to his daughter, legendary samurai-film star Toshiro Mifune was George Lucas's first choice for Darth Vader, but turned it down out of skepticism toward sci-fi and concern it would undermine his tough-warrior image. The role went to David Prowse in the suit, with James Earl Jones providing the now-iconic voice.
David Warner did makeup tests as Freddy Krueger โ then dropped out for a scheduling conflict


Warner was originally cast as Freddy Krueger and had already gone through makeup tests for A Nightmare on Elm Street before a scheduling conflict forced him to drop out at the last minute. Robert Englund took over the role and played Krueger in nearly every subsequent film in the franchise.
